Blackberry: necessary tools for apps development

If you want to work on Eclipse with Blackberry plug in, you should install, configure the following tools for application development in Blackberry platform. The steps are as following:

  1. Install JDK /jdk 1.6 or latest one. If necessary you may want download it from – http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  2. Install Eclipse Ganymede 3.4.0
  3. Install Blackberry_JDE_Plugin into existing Eclipse directory/folder. You will get more details in – http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/javaappdev/javaeclipseplug.jsp
  4. Install Blackbery Java Development Environment(JDE) components[eJde_4_6_0-19]. Download it  from – http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/javaappdev/javadevenv.jsp
  5. Then install JDE components in Eclipse such as Eclipse -> help -> Software Updates -> add site-> add archive then select the component and then click on Install
  6. Set up JDE components for your projects to develop. Navigate through, for example Eclipse -> preferences -> Blackberry JDE -> Installed components : select 4.6 components from drop down[you should select component as your requirements]
  7. Start Workbench and create new project. And getting started with Hello World – http://na.blackberry.com/developers/resources/A10_Writing_Your_First_Application_V5.pdf
  8. To run in simulator right-click on project for example “HelloWorld”, and select “Activate for Blackberry” and also again this way click on “Generate ALX file”
  9. Navigate to – Eclipse->Project->Build Active Blackberry Configuration
  10. Then you can run the application, for example helloworld, simulator
  11. That’s all
