ASP.NET 4: Configuraiton hierarchy

Configuration file hierarchy

  1. There is global configuration file for all sites on a server – Machine.config.  Path is %SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\<versionNumber>\CONFIG\
  2. The Machine.config file contains settings for all .NET application types, such as Windows,
    Console, Class Library, and web applications.
  3. Asp.net configuration files are called Web.config files
